Lesson from Watching the Big Eclipse

August 22, 2017

After all the hype and hoopla about the 2017 Great American Eclipse of the Century, the reality is just how brief the whole thing really was. For the few areas that saw a total eclipse, the complete blackout of the sun by the moon lasted less than 3 minutes. The experience was even less satisfying for us who saw a partial eclipse. Most of us were left asking, “That’s it?” But isn’t that the problem with much of the pleasures of this life? They are so momentary, and they leave their chasers wanting more. Seconds after the big eclipse people were already yearning for the one that’s coming in 2024. That’s why true believers in Jesus Christ “…do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are TEMPORARY, but the things which are not seen are ETERNAL” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Eclipse of Sun or Moon: God’s Show in the Sky

August 21, 2017

The solar eclipse of 2017 is one way the creation of God puts on a show not only to entertain humans but to also teach us about the wonderful intelligence, power and glory of our Creator. We read in Psalms 19:1, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His handiwork” (Psalms 19:1). God predates astronomers in forecasting celestial phenomena like a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse. Joel 3:15 reads, “The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will no longer shine” (Joel 3:15). Enjoy the show and adore the Producer.
