Christian living is neither a religious exercise nor a self-help project. Rather, it is Christ’s own life in us, a supernatural life that is generated, empowered, energized, activated and motivated by God’s Holy Spirit. As Pastor James MacDonald points out, “God has made no provision for you to live the Christian life except by His Spirit living His life through you.” Apostle Paul wrote, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves” (Galatians 5:16 NLT). Ask God to express His victorious, sin-conquering life in and through you today.
Momentary pleasure is like fast food; it tastes good but it’s not good for long-term health. King David sang, “For (God’s) anger lasts for a moment, but His favor lasts for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning..” (Psalms 30:5). Again, David declared, “You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalms 16:11). The person who seeks worldly pleasure may enjoy moments of pleasure but endure months of pain. One who chooses godly pleasure may endure moments of pain but will enjoy an eternity of pure pleasure.
